Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church has been a staple of our community for more than 50 years. This work of the Lord began in 1971 with the Revered Dale Jones at the helm, supported by only a very small number of families. The first meeting was held at the Shenandoah Farms Fire House, which is only a stones throw away from where the current building presently sits. Four years into this work, the Lord graciously provided the means for a church building, and in the fall of 1975 a meeting house for Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church was erected.
From the end of Rev. Dale Jones’ tenure in 1977, through the next decade, the church would be led by four different Pastors, each of whom would serve the congregation for no more than five years – the Reverend Jimmey Vaught (successor to Dale Jones) serving the longest, from 1977 to 1982. It was during this time, July of 1980, that the new educational building was added to the meeting house.
Finally, in 1988, the Lord would lay upon the heart of one Jack Wampler Sr. to seek a blue-collar community that he could, in obedience to the call of God upon his life, minister the Word of God. “Pastor Jack,” as many know him, and the “People’s Pastor,” as the Winchester Star newspaper wrote about him, would faithfully serve this church and greater community for the better part of three decades. Around every bend of this Shenandoah River, and to the deepest holler of these mountains, people everywhere regard Pastor Jack as a stalwart of this community and a faithful preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Having been called home to heaven in 2018, Pastor Jack’s gospel legacy lives on – not only in the hearts, minds, and souls of so many, but in the very sanctuary that the church currently meets – an addition to the original church which Pastor Jack spearheaded the plan to build. Completed in 2004, this sanctuary has been, and Lord willing will continue to be, a place in our community where God’s people gather to worship in Spirit and in truth for many years to come. At the end of Pastor Jack’s tenure, the congregation would call, then Associate Pastor, Calvin Brownlow as Senior Pastor. Beloved by many, Pastor Brownlow would accept this call for a limited number of years until the church could find a full time Pastor. Pastor Brownlow would faithfully serve in this role until 2021.
Having been so impacted by the calling home to heaven of Pastor Jack, then moving into a season of uncertainty with the pandemic, along with other uncertainties the congregation will once again begin to seek the Lord’s guidance in prayer for a Godly man to serve as Pastor.
Conveniently located with ease of access from Warren, Frederick, Clarke, Fauquier, and Loudoun county’s – Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church remains committed to preaching the word of God.
